Building Materials in Oman: Choosing the Right Supplies

The right materials decide how long a building lasts and how much it costs to maintain. Whether you are building a villa, fitting out a shop or renovating a single room, matching the material to the job keeps your project on budget and on schedule.
Blocks, bricks and interlocks
Hollow concrete blocks are the workhorse of most Omani builds: strong, affordable and quick to lay. Solid blocks add load-bearing strength for ground floors and boundary walls, while interlock pavers give you durable, low-maintenance driveways and yards.
- Hollow blocks for partition and infill walls
- Solid blocks for load-bearing and boundary walls
- Interlock pavers for driveways, paths and courtyards
Cement, sand and aggregate
Match the cement grade to the structural element. Use the correct mix ratios for foundations, columns and slabs, and insist on clean, washed sand to avoid cracking and efflorescence. Ordering in the right quantities up front reduces waste and repeated delivery charges.
Steel and structural supplies
Reinforcement bar (rebar) ties your concrete together. Buy to the specified diameter and grade, store it off the ground to prevent corrosion, and check that bends and laps follow the engineer's drawings. Quality steel is not the place to cut corners.
Finishing materials
Once the structure is up, finishes protect it and define the look: cement plaster, tiles, waterproofing and weather-grade paint. In Oman's climate, exterior waterproofing and UV-stable paint are essential to keep walls dry and colours from fading.
- Waterproofing for roofs, bathrooms and external walls
- Tiles and adhesives rated for floors versus walls
- Weather-grade, UV-stable exterior paint
